NC BOOST
NC Boost is an associate degree completion program based on the principles of the successful CUNY Accelerated Study in Associate Programs (ASAP). This program is a partnership between the state, NCCCS, colleges, and students that invests in students, equipping them to qualify for living-wage employment that benefits their communities. NC Boost is designed to increase timely graduation rates by addressing the financial, academic, and personal obstacles that many students confront. This data-driven program provides a combination of timely and relevant support, dedicated advising for students, and incentives to accelerate their educational progress.

There are two specific components of the Boost model that set it apart from other programs. First, NC Boost is explicitly framed as a workforce-development strategy. As such, students are only eligible to participate if they are a) enrolled in a high-wage program as defined in PropelNC, or b) enrolled in an Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, or Associate of Engineering degree program, or approved diploma programs, that will lead to successful transfer and a higher-wage career in the region.

Second, NC Boost participants receive strategic programmatic supports that encourage students’ progress toward program completion. They will have a dedicated NC Boost success advisor with a ratio of 150:1. This advisor will support participants with course registration, resource identification and connection, as well as providing interpersonal coaching as they navigate college life.

Additionally, Boost participants will receive priority registration, such as blocked scheduling when possible. They will be able to register for their courses before other students, guaranteeing their seats in the courses they need to complete their programs. Moreover, participants in the Boost program will receive financial support. In addition to tuition assistance via the Next NC scholarship or the Federal Pell grant, each student will also receive a basic needs grant for up to $800 and up to $600 towards textbooks each academic year.
